The bowl is empty, the lead is muddy and you are trying to remember where you left the towel.

Ask Rex can turn a sentence about a meal and a walk into two entries in your dog's journal1.

The useful habit is to name what happened clearly, review the proposed details and check the saved result. A conversation can help with the record without requiring you to reconstruct the entire day at bedtime.

Say which dog did what

Text chat is available on every plan. You can open it from a Rex chat button or through Settings, Ask Rex, then Text chat with Rex. When information is missing, Rex asks for it2.

For an example, imagine your dog is called Maple and you want to record yesterday's breakfast and walk. Say which food and portion were eaten, when breakfast happened and when the walk started, with its duration. You are giving an account of completed events.

If you cannot remember a detail, say so. Do not make a more precise account than your memory or notes support. Yesterday's meal, today's planned dinner and a usual routine are three different things to describe. Decide which one you mean before asking for an entry.

Read the proposal before it becomes the record

Rex checks before saving starts on. For supported journal actions, read the dog, date, time and details, then approve or ask for a correction3. The wording you sent is only the beginning of that check.

The proposed-action card is called Rex wants to save this. The product guide says it can combine requests concerning more than one dog, and waits fifteen minutes if you leave it1. Look through every item when several events are grouped together.

You can turn Rex checks before saving off for quick logging: simple journal entries then save with Undo. Medications, reminders, profile edits and switching dog still require confirmation1. Choose that setting according to how you prefer to review everyday logs.

A useful way to read a multi-entry card is to take each line as a separate question. Is this the correct dog? Does this belong on that day? Is the amount what was eaten? Does the walk duration describe what you did? A fluent sentence can contain a mistaken detail.

Keep food information as certain as it is

A food name leaves a separate question about the energy in the portion. The Nutrition guide allows an unknown energy value to remain unknown4.

Nutrition allows separate portions of different foods in one bowl. If a food's energy is unknown, the day's total is marked incomplete. Saved foods and checked label details help you keep a useful record without filling a gap with an invented figure4.

Daily meal routines hold foods, portions and usual mealtimes4.

Rex can help log the regular meals that happened, flagging a dog without a routine1. Check whether today's feeding matched that routine before referring to it.

The Nutrition guide explains that changing a routine from a chosen day preserves earlier amounts. It also says meal entries made offline sync after reconnection4. That is a description of meal logging, not a promise that a disconnected Rex conversation can be completed offline.

Check what actually saved

A typed request is not proof of saving. Check the confirmation and activity bubble. On failure, inspect the care screen before repeating2.

The everyday-care guide asks shared households to check whether someone has already logged the bowl. You can also correct a mistyped care entry5. An extra entry made while you are uncertain can leave a misleading account for the next person.

From sentence to checked entry

  1. DescribeSeparate what happened from what is planned
  2. ReviewCompare each proposed item with your own account
  3. ApproveUse the offered confirmation when the details are right
  4. InspectOpen the saved result and check it against the care record

The activity guide treats duration, date and time as details you provide. Steps or distance entered from your own tracker are manual information, not measurements Dogoos makes through that logging screen5. Leave an unmeasured detail out rather than interpreting a completed entry as proof it was tracked.

Ask about records and manage memory separately

Ask Rex can discuss logged food, reminders and recent reads, acknowledging insufficient records. The product guide also describes searchable past conversations1. Begin with a specific period or event when revisiting something.

For example, ask about last week's breakfasts if breakfast is the question. Then compare the answer with the entries you kept. A quiet day in a journal may reflect a missing entry, so distinguish something you know did not happen from something you did not write down.

Under Settings, Ask Rex, What Rex remembers, you can review and delete memory notes. The privacy walkthrough explains that a memory note and a conversation are separate records; deleting a chat does not automatically remove every memory note3.

If a preference or remembered detail has changed, review the relevant note as well as any conversation about it. A useful record stays understandable when another person reads it later, including you after the original circumstances have faded.

Use Live with the same attention to saving

On Android, Rex Live is available on Pack Leader1.

The current walkthrough says you can interrupt, mute or use Type instead, while care actions retain the confirmation setting and care controls2. Speaking changes how you have the conversation, rather than removing that review.

The Privacy Policy says Live audio streams so Rex can respond, and Dogoos does not save the audio. The transcribed words remain in chat history like a typed conversation, which you can reopen, continue or delete6. Unsaved audio therefore does not mean the conversation leaves no written record.

Choose where you are comfortable speaking before starting. If another person is nearby, consider what they can hear as well as what you intend to add to the journal. Typing remains a useful option when you want to check the wording as you go.

Know the allowance and another way to log

Each account has a separate daily chat allowance, resetting at midnight UTC. Requests vary in what they use, so there is no fixed message count2. The plans walkthrough confirms that text chat is included on every plan, with its own allowance7.

On Android, pressing and holding the Dogoos app icon offers shortcuts including a meal sheet, activity sheet and Rex Live on Pack Leader. A shortcut opens the relevant route; you finish the action inside Dogoos8. You can use the care screens when you prefer their fields.

The care guide says medication entries should preserve your vet's instructions, and puppies or dogs with special dietary or health needs require individual veterinary feeding advice5. Recording an instruction does not choose or change it.

For the next bowl and walk, give Rex the details you have, then look at the result. You will have a record you can return to, with its dog, day and amount checked while the event is still fresh.
