One sentence, two journal entries
One line, thumbed in the hall with a muddy towel in your other hand: “Millie just had 60g of gravy bones and we did a 40-minute walk.” That's two entries — the food scaled against her usual meal so the calories work themselves out, the walk at steady intensity — both filed to Millie, not to whichever dog the app was showing.
Rex reads back what he did: Logged: 60g Gravy Bones, Logged: 40 min walk. They're the same rows the Nutrition and Activity screens write — nothing about them says “logged by chat”.

Type it, or say it
The mic feeds your device's own dictation into the box, so you can fix a word before you send it. Where a device or a browser doesn't offer dictation, the mic dims and says so rather than swallowing what you said.
Rex shows what he'd save
A card headed “Rex wants to save this” lists what he'd write, with “Nothing is saved until you confirm.” underneath it. Two dogs in one breath stack into one card you take or discard whole. Close the screen mid-thought and it waits fifteen minutes.
It says what really happened
Recorded: 12.4 kg. Or, just as plainly, “No result came back — treat it as not saved.” He never claims a save he didn't get a confirmation for.
Worth knowing. If the Confirm card is a step too many, turn Rex checks before saving off in Settings: simple journal logs then save straight away with an Undo. Medications, reminders, profile edits and switching dog still ask first either way — those aren't one-breath decisions.
Asking, not just telling

“How's her eating looking?” is answered out of what you logged, not out of what an AI assumes about a 12kg spaniel. Where a tool has nothing solid to say, Rex repeats that rather than filling the gap.
Honest by design
The numbers Rex won't make up
Name a food he hasn't seen on your dog's list and he won't invent its calories. He asks you for the kcal per 100g off the back of the pack, or offers to log the meal with the calories honestly unknown — counted as zero, and said out loud. The foods catalogue is keyed on barcodes, so there is no name to guess from — which is exactly why he asks instead of guessing.
Tell him your tracker said 4,200 steps and he writes 4,200 down. He never produces a step count or a distance of his own; those are only ever what your own tracker showed you. A dose is kept as free text, word for word as you said it — “half a tablet” stays “half a tablet”, never converted, never suggested. Dogoos records it, never calculates it.
Ask him what a lump means and he won't guess — that's a vet's answer, and he says so warmly. Then he writes down what you saw, in your words, so it's there when you're in the room.
Twenty-four tools, no bones
What he can reach, and what he can't
Rex has twenty-four tools, and not one of them lets him spend your bones, change your plan or touch your account. Bones still arrive when he logs a walk — they come off the same server path as a tap, and he can't add one himself. His own instructions put it in his voice: you cannot award, spend or count bones — that's the owner's to do.

What it won't do
- Take a read for you — he opens the camera, you point it
- Award, spend or count bones himself, or spin the daily wheel
- Change your plan, run a breed check, or touch your account
- Hand you a locked palette — he says where it's earned instead
- Diagnose, dose, or read meaning into a symptom
- Talk back out loud — you can speak to him; his replies are text
Notes he keeps, notes you bin
He remembers the small stuff — and you can make him forget it
He keeps short notes from your conversations — “prefers walking before work”, “Millie is grain-free” — so you're not answering the same question every fortnight. Settings → What Rex remembers lists every one, and deleting a note stops it being used from your very next message. Opening Ask Rex starts a fresh chat rather than yesterday's; the old one becomes the first row of a searchable history.
The allowance, plainly. Pup's is “Light chat”; Tracker's is “Everyday chat”, Whisperer's “Generous chat”, Pack Leader's “Heavy chat”. That's the whole scale — you're never shown a token count, because it would mean nothing to anybody. Run a day out and it says so: “That's today's chat used — it resets tomorrow.”

Before you ask him anything
Do I need a subscription for Ask Rex?
No — it's on every plan, free tier and all. Pup's allowance is labelled “Light chat”, Tracker's “Everyday chat”, and it goes up from there. Run a day out and Rex tells you, then it resets tomorrow. Everything that's free.
Can Rex tell me what's wrong with my dog?
No, and he's built not to try: no diagnosis, no dosing, no interpreting symptoms. When a conversation strays clinical he says warmly that it's one for the vet. What he does is keep the record straight — your words, the dose as you said it, the weight curve — so your vet gets a clear history.
Will he save anything without showing me first?
Not by default. “Rex checks before saving” starts on, and every save waits behind a Confirm card. The exceptions are the theme and dark mode, which flip instantly — you can see them land, and asking him to flip them back is one more sentence. Switch the setting off and simple journal logs save immediately with an Undo; medications, reminders and profile edits always ask first either way.
Where do the calories in a logged meal come from?
From the food itself: a usual meal scales from the entry you already have. If it's new, he asks for the kcal per 100g off the pack, or logs it with calories honestly unknown. He won't estimate them. How Dogoos handles food.
What does he actually know about my dog?
The profile, the health journal, what you've logged, the mood reads with their confidence scores, and the notes distilled from past chats — nothing from anyone else's dog. What lives in the Health Hub.
Does Ask Rex work in the browser?
Yes — it's the same chat, the same account, at app.dogoos.com. Live camera reads stay on the phone app, and the mic leans on the browser's own dictation — where a browser doesn't offer it, the mic dims and says so. What the web app can and can't do.
