The AI writes the words. It never writes the numbers.

Every read leaves a mood and a confidence number, and usually a keepsake photo — the frame grab is best-effort, so some reads land without one. When the month ends, Dogoos sorts that month’s reads oldest first, cuts them into eight equal groups and takes the best read from each: a keepsake photo scores highest, then a mood you haven’t seen yet this month, then confidence. A month of eight reads or fewer keeps every one of them. Run it twice and you get the same eight.

A month only gets told once it has ended, so a story happens at most once a month, per dog — and the pages around those eight moments have to earn their place. A streak page only if there was a real run of days. A plot twist only if two reads inside the same six hours landed far apart on the mood scale, where Engaged to Uncertain is just enough. A thin month makes a short story, and that’s the version you get. Tap to move on, hold to pause, swipe up for a recap card — and Reduce Motion flattens the animation rather than fighting you.

The axes come out of the reads. Sunny or Deep is the share of playful and engaged moments, weighted by confidence. Steady or Wildcard is whether one mood took over half the month. Face-first or whole-body is which signal the AI read more strongly. And Sunrise or Moonlight is the median hour of your reads — which the code is careful to label as when the two of you have your moments, never your dog’s body clock. A phone that comes out at eleven at night says rather more about you. Put the four together and you get a name: The Sunrise Smiler greets the day face-first, usually with a grin.

Under ten reads, or spread over fewer than five separate days, and Dogoos stops pretending — fourteen reads crammed into one long weekend earns no four-letter type either. From five reads up you get one of four quadrant types instead, built only from the two axes a thinner month can honestly support: The Sunbeam, The Free Spirit, The Quiet Thinker (“Calm and deep. Probably about dinner.”), The Enigma. Below five reads the card flips over on The Mystery, “To be continued…”, and a plain count of how many more reads would settle it.

Every name on the Deep side is warm on purpose. A watchful month gets The Old Soul, or The Midnight Maverick — “After-dark wildcard. The night is full of plots.” Never anxious, never sad. A quiet dog is not a broken dog.

Eight reads or more in a month, with Uncertain and Appeasing together holding 45% of the confidence-weighted mood mix, and the story changes shape: the joke awards vanish, the plot twist goes with them, and the model is told to keep every field tender and observational. What it says is that you were there for all of them, and that patterns live in the health journal if you want to look. If a month worries you, that journal and a qualified vet are the next step. Dogoos records what it sees; it never decides what it means.
