Give your dog room to be themselves
Choose the right dog
Check the dog selector before tapping the paw. With several dogs in the frame, a clear profile photo helps personalised reads focus on the one you selected.
Find good light
Keep their face and body visible, with the light falling onto them rather than behind them. Move closer if they are a tiny shape in the distance.
Add the context
Choose the tags that fit what just happened, such as a treat, playtime or a loud noise. Context helps make sense of the same expression in different situations.
Capture ordinary behaviour
Let them sit, sniff or move naturally. You don’t need to make them bark, stare at the camera or perform. If the clip is unclear, change the light or framing before trying again.

Pick a length that fits the moment
Five seconds is the starting length on every plan. Paid plans and active Tracker Passes also offer ten- and twenty-second clips. A longer clip can catch a change in behaviour, but takes longer to upload.
Microphone access is optional: a video-only read still uses the visible clues. If the camera is blocked, review its permission in your device settings, then reopen the read screen.

Read the answer alongside your dog
A saved result shows the mood, confidence and an explanation of the visible and audible clues. Confidence describes how clear that interpretation was; it isn’t a guarantee about how your dog feels.
“Couldn’t read clearly” means there wasn’t enough usable evidence. Try a calmer frame or better light. Dogoos offers guidance about a moment; changes that worry you deserve a conversation with your vet.

Choose the photo you want to keep
Browse Choose a keepsake
After the read, scroll through the moments. Tap to choose one, or press and hold to preview it. The small preview button opens the larger view too.
Take a closer look
Swipe or use the Previous photo and Next photo arrows. Choose this photo selects that moment. Edit photo opens the crop editor; Crop is also available from the picker.
Save your favourite
Tap Save photo and let “Saving your keepsake…” finish. Keep read only saves the read without a photo. After saving, tap the result’s photo to open Your keepsake, where you can zoom in.

Find a capture that is waiting
Open Home
The read queue appears while captures are waiting, processing or need attention. A weak connection doesn’t mean you have to film the moment again immediately.
Open the waiting item
Read the status and use the option it offers. The waiting screen shows progress notes, with no running timer. Waiting captures resume when they can; a capture that has expired needs a fresh clip. The queue holds up to five pending captures, each for up to 24 hours.
Check the finished read
Completed reads join the selected dog’s History, with a keepsake photo when a usable still is available. The temporary video doesn’t become an album video. You’ll also find a read-ready note in your in-app inbox even when phone alerts are off. For a phone alert, turn on Saved reads & summaries in Settings → Your pack → Push notifications.

Know when a read is used
Pup includes 1 read a day, Tracker 3 reads a day, Whisperer 10 reads a day and Pack Leader 25 reads a day. The allowance resets at midnight UTC. Bonus reads are for that UTC day.
Recording or waiting for a connection doesn’t use a read. A slot is used after the completed upload is accepted for processing. Once accepted, there is no automatic refund of that read for an unclear or failed result. Resuming the same capture doesn’t use it twice, and cancelling after acceptance doesn’t return its slot.
Context training records a real clip and uses the same allowance. A waiting capture doesn’t reserve a slot, so you may need to wait for the next reset if the day’s allowance is already used.

If the camera won’t start
Close another app that might be using the camera, leave the read screen and open it again. Check that your device has allowed camera access. If the preview is still black, restart Dogoos and check for an app update.
If it keeps happening, send us a message with your device model, what you tapped and the words on screen. Please don’t send a private clip to explain the problem.

Questions you might have
Why is a keepsake missing?
A read can finish without a usable still. The mood result and its history entry are still useful. If the image is only taking time to arrive, check your connection and reopen Memories.
What happens to the temporary clip?
It stays in private temporary storage while the read finishes. Cleanup follows completion, cancellation or expiry; backups and soft deletion may retain server copies for up to seven further days. The privacy policy explains the full retention details.
