Choosing a place
Visit first, then book
In England, boarding and daycare businesses are licensed by their local council and the licence should be on show, with a star rating; ask to see it. Elsewhere in the UK the rules differ, so ask what applies.
Ask what vaccinations they need and by when, how many dogs share a space, who is there overnight, and what happens if your dog is unwell. A good place will want to meet your dog before a stay.
A short settling-in day before a long stay tells you more than any brochure. Take your dog's own bed, food and a worn t-shirt of yours for the first night.
